1st time I took it I got &quot;soft&quot; cramps, like a flutter or a spasm, even though I drank a good deal of water. have used it off &amp; on for the last few years &amp; no negative effects. positive effects could be debatable too

I've been taking 5g per day for several months now. No negative side effects I know of. I do not drink any more water than Idid before.
 
There are also many studies examining the safety of creatine monohydrate. Here are a few examples:
