i know that steroids are a must to have a bodybuilder type physique... but what are the best muscle building supplements for a natural trainee?!
i think creatine, arginine and tribulus should be taken but havent used them... any opinions?! for what to take, when and how and why?? :) thanks for any advice!

Tribulus is useless. As for arginine I've seen one study from the University of Texas that suggests it's possible increased blood flow may help build muscle, but that's a long, long jump to saying arginine helps. That said, the pumps have a great psychological benefit.

As long as the discussion is limited to what's going to directly affect hypertrophy it's going to be limited. Basically to steroids, creatine, HMB, and maybe a few other things. Ecdysterone may have something to it, but the price for the necessary dose is ridiculous and even then results seem to be hit or miss. Insulin, IGF and GH are all effective, but dangerous. Currently there are myostatic inhibitors out. Ten grand will buy you a nice cycle and probably leave you with a heart muscle that's twice the weight of an elephant's heart when you were finished.

Arginine and Lysine mixed in a 1:1 ratio and taken at 6 grams a day divided over the day can have the effect of raising GH levels. They won't supraphysiological levels, nor will this help build muscle, but in the long run it can help burn a little extra fat.

Necessary

Protein- Pre and Post plus other times throughout the day
Creatine-To load or not to load, that is the question ;), just kidding either way eventually you will saturate the transporter.
EFA
Multivitamin
Water
Food

Unecessary but can be helpful

HMB
Ecdysterone/Ipriflavones/Methoxyflavones, in the heaviest part of the cycle, not for mass but for connective tissue
Tribulus, depending on what study you read and believe

Beneficial during Cutting Phases

Ephidrine
Cafeine
Vinegar, just doing some more reading on this latley ;)

Not needed

Glutamine, if you are eating whey protein you probably are getting all you need anyway, so why pay for it again.
ZMA, unless of course you are deficient

as i have always suspected... i know there has never been a miracle supplement... the companies selling them are only boasting their products, and they are only effective as little as 5% in making progress... anyway thanks for the info

Essential Fatty Acids

Now that the Prohormone Ban is alive and kickin, there isn't much out there. Most of what you see is hype, there are some promising items under development but who knows if or when they will be introduced. Plus who knows what will happen to them if they are introduced to the public. America, home of the free

For EFA`s I`d recommend liquid fish oil (either health from the sun or Carlson`s). It`s cheap, really high in EPA/DHA and you don`t have to pop fish pills all day long.

DKM, I`m with you on all the supps you posted although I`d like to add casein protein in addition to whey if I might.

The only other supplement I have considered is MCT. I`ve read good things about it, even here but before I shell out any cash I`d like to hear your opinion on this.

I was also using vinegar for some time and believe I was having reasonable results with it but in the end I just couldn`t get used to downing the stuff 3x daily.
