Is there a minimum effective weight?

Hi all:

I am a newbie to HST, and also a relative newbie to weight training in any form. Several of my muscle groups are very weak - legs and chest in particular.

My question is this - when determining the weight decrement going back from the 15RM, how do I know what the minimum effective weight for the first workout is? Since some of my 15RM's are pretty small numbers, I don't want to take 10 lbs off 5 times and end up with a weight that is clearly trivial. How will I know for sure?

Thanks.

Find your maxes and then count backwards about 5% or 2,5 lbs (for smaller muscle groups) decrease in each workout. But don`t go under 50% of your max.

i read somewhere (maybe a post from O n G... correct me if i'm wrong) that 70% of the rep max range is the minimum effective weight. e.g. 15RM 100lbs .. start with 70lbs

tcup - don't go under 50% of the 5RM or any rep range?
