Gathering My Arm Rep Maxes

Ok I was working tonight on gathering my arm rep maxes and found that every 5lb increment with dbells cuts my reps in the neighborhood of 5 reps. Does this happen with most people ? Is this going to be a problem in inducing hypertrophy or is this to be expected with smaller muscle groups?
 
Well, the 5lb increment is pretty small, but not unheard of. No need to fret about hypertrophy- just repeat or zig-zag, and you'll do OK. What are your maxes?

Don't fret; 5 pounds on a dumbell is like 10 pounds on a barbell (or more, since dumbells tend to be a bit harder.)

This is often an issue for beginners trying to get a smoother progression.

I have a couple of 2.5 pound wrist weights that can be used to make smaller increments. There are also lots of 1 pound wriste weights around. If you can get them, some sports shops carry Plate Mates, or other fractional weight magnets that you can stick on the sides of the dumbells to add a pound or two.
