    New angle

He's just proposing that, instead of bumming around on off days, doing some work (just lighter work, so iso's) will be more beneficial, hence "optimizing hypertrophy".

Going to failure on last sets??

That's a good plan. It would be important to note it's not just about having some time to recover, but as (or more) important are nutritional factors (pre workout, in particular). In this case, taking in BCAA's is a good idea. Not for mega muscle growth, but simply to help out against CNS...

    HST Log

"Too much" is less about "# of sets" as it is about very individualistic capacity, and also about what exactly is done. In other words, unless some frail kid says he's going to do 10 sets of 400 pound squats, hard to say what is too much for a person who isn't yourself.

Good thing he's an @ss so we don't have to listen to anything he says

    Gaining-dieting periods

It's not about whether you are hungry or not, but how much carbs are available. Not eating is just plain nuts.

Going to try HST for the first time.

Or follow what was clearly mentioned in the HST summary- just add 5-10 pounds per lift. OR 5-10%. You'll figure it out.

    First week of HST...question

Don't worry about missed workouts, there's no magic there. Just continue when you can and follow whatever your workout schedule is (like a workout every other day or 3x a week).

    Nuts!

:D Oh boy Oprah. Always out to bust nuts. If it's not ours, some other nuts. dang man-haters. I say, if women want to get some self-esteem, try developing it on their own, not just by trying to make men look like bastard a-hole pigs Next someone will say DR. PHIL said training more than...

    5 rm+

If you are continuing your 5RM for the next 2 weeks, yes, you only use the loads at the last workout of the 5RM

    Gene Rychlak at 2005 Olympia

Hey Aaron, this is something that's been puzzling me for a time. How the devil does the bench shirt work? I know that with lots of practice (and with the right shirt), it can add a lot of poundage to your lift... but how or why does that happen? Is it because it makes the lift more stable so...

    Heroes & role models

Errr... Batman, I guess :D Seriously, my motivation?  :D Honestly, I just wanted to impress a girl. There was this girl, Hazel (or Shobe , her chinese nickname, it means 'younger sister' ). She was so beautiful and I just adored her and would have actually gladly kissed the ground she walked...

    Negatives recruit different fibers?

Occlusion simply means blockage or obstruction. Occlusion here refers to blood occlusion in the muscle worked; occlusion studies (BB related of course) found good results. You can imitate this by training with a tourniquet  :D For normal folk, however, this is what is tried to accomplish when we...

    New angle

You can workout as often as you want, as long as you keep the volume of work in check. It all boils down to how you manage your workout (meaning you also consider all other variables), not just controlling how often you workout. You can easily overfatigue yourself even with just 3x a week if you...

    New angle

Hey Fausto  :) Ah, Fausto old boy, new routine eh? Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this. I thought of doing something like this some time ago (doing extra isolations  - in particular curls - during off days). But didn't go through with it. (Not to mention I don't have off days really...

    Negatives recruit different fibers?

Same fibers; with sufficient load, all fibers are already recruited, there isn't any left for negatives to exclusively recruit. Greater load in the negatives allows for more microtrauma and, most importantly, continuation of progressive loading, and since it's focused on the eccentric, Type II...

HST Principle "Don't train to Failure"
