    I don't plan on doing a 5x5 anytime soon... probably not until August when I can start bulking again. I am cutting till then with high frequency HST cycles - 8x (compound/iso split, AM/PM), 6x/week, 912, etc..) How long does a typical 5x5 cycle go for?

    I've been around here for quite some time, and I haven't really checked out this board until now. Doesn't the general layout of a 5x5 or Single Factor training program use HST principals? -full body training -frequency (3x/week) -progressive load (weekly) ... but pretty much without the SD...

    Go for 8 weeks by adding 2 weeks of negatives.. if for certain exercises you cannot do negs, then continue using your 5RM (or even progress on top of that)... use techniques such as pulsing, drop sets, static holds. Deadlifts are sweet.. as long as your lower back can handle them.

    You said it man... hyperextensions I get lower back pain from deadlifts, so I recently just quit them.

    Deadlifts? Instead of alternating weekly, I would go for every other workout, so you experience light and heavy weights for all exercises. You will also have larger increments by doing this.

    Yep, low teens.. as for the calipers.. what totentanz said.. I probably have the same cheap ones that he has. They are plastic manual read calipers that I got off of ebay for like 3 bucks.
