    calves

I usually stretch at the bottom nearly as far as I can without running the risk of my feet slipping off the platform--which with heavier weights is not very far. I have always done it like this and have calves that are disproportionately developed (IMO) to the rest of my body.

    No 5's ?

I'm 42 and have done Arnold-routines on and off for the last 20+ years. I've gotten very quick results using HST. I never really did much heavy work, though, and none in the last 5 years. When I got to my 2nd week of 5s, I tore a tendon (and some muscles)--this might or might not serve as a...

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

The doctor didn't offer it, so I guess I'll just have to heal naturally. J.

    1st HST cycle

I was surprised too at my gains during the first cycle, and they continued throught the 2nd. HST is great stuff. Keep at it. John

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

I was doing single sessions 3 times a week, as prescribed. I saw the doc yesterday, who says in addition to whatever muscle damage there is, I also tore my pectoralis tendon. He doesn't think I'll need surgery, but won't know for sure till I come back in a couple weeks and he can judge how much...

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

jvroig--No, I don't actually speak to my students...I just crack a whip. Got an appt. with a dr. recommended by the Director of Athletics at the univ., so that's good. Less good is that he won't see me till Wednesday. I know...bitch, bitch, bitch.... It would be mildly ironic if I got a...

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

Jiminy Christmas, what an ordeal, Joe. I don't think overtraining will be a problem for me--never was. If anything, I will be overly timid with the weights after this little episode. John

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

I've had my arm in a sling fashioned from a neighbor's gaudy scarf...but not when I've had to go out in public! Yeah, I know it's torn. It feels much better tonight, so it's probably not a complete tear. How long did the pain last with your injury?

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

I was not using very much weight--165 on bench.  I usually use dumbbells, but yesterday was using the barbell.  I've looked in an anatomy book and am guessing that it is the carocobrachialis muscle that is injured, because neither the tricep nor the bicep hurts.  There is considerably more...

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

So far, the pain is not that severe. In any case, I won't be able to get to a doctor till Monday, if I'm able to get right in, that is. I'll let you know what the diagnosis/prognosis is.

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

Great....I can't just go straight to a physical therapist? I have a high deductible and can't really afford x-rays, MRI's, and so on. Or would a pt not see me without a physician's referral? John

    I Think I Tore a Muscle

I started (and didn't finish) my 2nd week of 5's today.  I was doing my 2nd set on bench when all of a sudden there was a ghastly, crunching RIIIIIIIPing sound/feeling, and my arm collapsed and the weight came down.  The arm didn't much hurt at the time, but was suddenly extremely weak, and...

    lower back issues

By 5x a week do you mean 5 days a week? That's an awful lot. Assuming your form is good you are probably doing these exercises much too frequently. I have a temperamental lower back and do the same exercises 3x a week and have no problems. I've also been careful to increase weight very slowly...

    Yet Another Shoulder Injury

I have trouble with my left shoulder, too. I've hurt it in the past by letting the bar down too far on military, and now don't let it down farther than the back of my head--it seems to have solved THAT problem. But about a year ago I really hurt my shoulder doing warm-ups on a flye machine with...

To alternate or not to alternate?

I don't alternate all the exercises--some I've been alternating within the 2-week cycle only if, say, someone is hogging to squat rack or the smith machine (for military). For bis, tris, and chest, I alternate exercises each workout, not within the workout, as I had been doing previously. So...
