91% carbs in dextrose

I normally put dextrose in my post workout shake.

Anyway this morning I was looking at the nutritional panel at the back of the packet and it said that each 100g of dextrose contains 91 grams of carbs, all of which was sugar.

On the front of the packet it says "100% dextrose monohydrate".

I'm sure this makes sense in some parallel universe, but it doesn't mnake sense in mine.

Dextrose monohydrate

contains a single water molecule ie

mono =one

hydrate = compound formed by the addition of water to a host molecule

the remainder is glucose

that means not all of the bag is glucose

about 9% of it according to the label
