    HST newbie: confused

Are you a beginner to weight training or just a beginner to HST? I would say that for the most part what you have is ok, although, if you've been lifting for years it might not be enough. I echo Miller's suggestion about squats. Squats and SLDL are by far the best mass building exercises. My...

    Customizing HST

I believe, with regards to strength, that gains are specific to the approach.  That is, eccentrics will increase eccentric strength and concentrics will increase concentric strength.  If strength is a concern it's best to do full reps.  As a matter for hypertrophy, eccentrics will cause more...

    Never sore

Two questions for you: Were you sore during your first cycle? How long was your SD?

    Newiest routine not panning out?

I think you have to go by your past experience and take into account how long you've been training. For me (I've been training for 5 years and using HST for nearly 3) I know that I now have more success with two sets during the 10s. When I first started on HST one set was fine. On the other...

    muscle imbalances?

This came from an NASM newsletter: "The efficiency of the kinetic chain also affects the ability to increase muscle size. For a muscle to grow, it must be stimulated. A joint that is dysfunctional due to muscle imbalances can inhibit the growth of muscles surrounding that joint...

    A few SD questions...

If you are dieting while not training you WILL lose muscle. How much is a different question, related to how fat you are (which influences nutrient partitioning and stuff), your natural tendency to gain weight (do you add weight easily? have trouble getting lean?) etc. If you tend to "hang...

    A few SD questions...

When I SD, I don't do ANYthing. :D You won't look the same while you sd -- your muscles won't appear as pumped or full, but this doesn't mean that you are losing muscle. Don't worry. Its highly unlikely that you will lose any muscle unless you are going below maintenance calories and losing...

    Lifewave

That's hysterical. Is that a real quote from Ronnie Coleman?

Not much of a "study", is it?

    Lifewave

Have you heard of it before? I'm mostly interested in finding these supposed studies. One was supposed to be a study on strength trained athletes.

    Pull ups/Chin Ups

I believe the narrower grip puts a greater stretch on the lats, and is thus "better" for hypertrophy. It also provides a leverage advantage which explains why we can use more weight (also "better" for hypertrophy).

    Pull ups/Chin Ups

Isn't that the opposite of what is generally believed with regards to the biceps? According to exrx the movement with your palms facing away from you involves the biceps as a synergist, but not when your palms face you?

    Lifewave

All right, I found where I posted this last night (under general training). I take back the big brother comment. ... gotta stop drinkin the nyquil. :D

    Lifewave

I put up a post about this last night and it seems to have disappeared (big brother is watching -- is this part of the patriot act?). I'll try again. I heard about this thing called lifewave that Ronnie Coleman endorses. Its supposed to give you more energy. You wear these patches on specific...
