    HST and Milk

But Aaron, everybody knows milk is for babies and when you get older you have to drink beer, right? Or in the Aussie's case, b-e-e-e-e-e-a-a-a-r. I wish I could find some of that there calcitrim stuff. But in this land of socialsim=no choice, we have no access to anything resembling good or...

    Low Carb Refeeds a No-No?

She's 5'8 and hovers around the 85-88kg mark. I sometimes feel hesitant about recommending lower calories as she suffered from anorexia when she was a competitive swimmer and I would hate to see her caught in the same cycle again. Would taking calories to the 1000cals mark be advisable in her...

    Low Carb Refeeds a No-No?

This is the problem with the way some of the diets are communicated to the general/unknowledgeable user. They read something like the T-Dawg diet which recommends a one day/one meal re-carb per week (even if overweight) and follow it verbatim. Especially when you read comments like this from a...

    zinc aparate magnesium B6

I know everyone maligns ZMA, but I don't know... I really felt generally more energetic and healthy when taking this supplement compared to generic Zinc/Magenesium formulations. Maybe it had something to do with the $50.00 price tag I was paying per bottle. This is the problem when attempting...

    HST and Milk

Lactose intolerance aside, wouldn't one be concerned with the amount of saturated fat in milk? I know some of the hardgainer/old school puritans recommend full cream in relatively large quantities as a bodybuilding staple, but I've always cringed at the amount of saturated fat that would entail...

    Ketogenic diet

Ditto. I think one of the major probs with keto/low carb diets is that most people invariably gain the weight back (and sometimes a little extra) when they resume normal eating. I think adopting an eating approach like the Zone is a more sane approach to fat loss that (in my opinion) works just...

    Low Carb Refeeds a No-No?

A while back when reading on MFW Lyle alluded to the fact that the effectiveness of keto diets could be attributed to the use of weekly refeeds and their subsequent effect on leptin levels etc. However, reading John Berardi's column this week he seems to eschew the whole refeed theory saying...

    Ketogenic diet

I thought the macronutrient split for a keto diet was high fat, moderate (note- not high) protein and low carbs. I think I've read that eating high amounts of protein could possibly keep one out of ketosis on these diets - not that being in ketosis matters a whole lot on these sorts of diets anyway.

    more ?s on oil

Can I ask why you wouldn't cook with it. I remember there was a debate about cooking with olive oil or not, and there were some studies (I think from memory) showing it made no difference to the constitition of the oil.

    more ?s on oil

I live on extra virgin olive oil, but do you mean to say that you shouldn't cook with EV-olive oil?

A HSN Omega 3 Product in the Works??

Just to add to what Bryan has written, Sears author of the Zone commented that when fish oil supplements were released in the 1980's, they tasted just as bad as the existing cod liver oil products and therefore consumers largely rejected using them. Encapsulation greatly remedied this problem...

    Water, Water All Around

In light of the constant barrage of reports of toxins found in every day tap water and considering the fact that many of us drink (especially in an Australian summer) upwards of 3.5 litres a day, I can hardly say my question is simply 'splitting hairs' as you label it. There have been more than...

Substitutes For Liquid Post Workout Nutrition

We don't have the best range of supplements down under, and a lot of the soy protein products produced by Australian companies taste beyond awful. There are also many issues of quality with Australian produced supplements, with some of the best known brands not meeting label claims...

A HSN Omega 3 Product in the Works??

Thanks for that Bryan. It seems Sears and Omegabrite have the monopoly on high grade fish oils at the moment, and I look forward to switching to a HSN product.

    Water, Water All Around

My decision to buy a Britta filter (very cheap really) was based on a consumer watchdog magazine's assessment of the various water filtration systems. Though the water tastes 100% better through this simple filter than directly from the tap, I've always wondered if it is doing the job well...

A HSN Omega 3 Product in the Works??

Being a Zone diet devotee, one of my mainstain supplements is plenty of fish oil. However, in the country I live in, we have no access to good quality (either mollecularly distilled or pharmaceutical grade) Omega 3 oils. I was wondering Bryan if there was an Omega 3 product planned to join the...

    Water, Water All Around

Reading one of the Tmag articles this week referring to diet, it mentioned the importance of water (duh) and the limited availability of healthy sources for water. It mentioned that the only good sources of water come from the distilled kind, or water purified from a reverse osmosis filter. I...

Substitutes For Liquid Post Workout Nutrition

I am one of the few unfortunates who is allergic to whey protein, and therefore cannot use the various protein shakes as part of my post workout regimen. I understand that post workout nutrition is relatively crucial if one wants to maximise their gains, but the best I can do is a post workout...
