    Is a Calorie a Calorie?

Maybe I'm not giving the researchers enough credit, but maybe they forgot to account for water weight lost.

    Diet questions...

Damo, you have much to learn. Dietary fat does not equal body fat, it's calories that matter. You can eat an all fat diet, and get leaner. It's important to know that higher amounts of dietary fat lead to higher testosterone levels, which is definitely a good thing for building muscle. (Unless...

What's your opinion of using steroids?

Nothing wrong with steroids, they can be used very successfully with few, if any, side effects. There are risks, but if you educate yourself the vast majority can be prevented. It is those who indiscriminantly poke needles into their bodies or pop the first pill they come across that give...

Calulating Cals, fat, protein and carbs

Calorie calculator aint bad, but maybe a few hundred calories low. I suppose it's a matter of opinion. Nonetheless, good job. Nothing annoys me more than getting a dieting calorie 'quote' of 3000+.

When to drink my pre workout drink?

If you're going to eat a solid meal just one hour before working out ( maybe not the most optimal decision) i'd go for more complex carbs. If not you would most certainly suffer from a bit of low blood sugar by the time your workout rolled around. For all I know it doesn't matter at all. I can...

    Getting enough calories.

There's two alternatives: Eat food that is less clean, (pizza, burgers). Calories tend to add up really quickly that way. Some lean guys can get away with a lot. My roommate pretty much survived on pizza his freshman year, had no activity whatsoever and yet maintained his six pack. (I'd guess...

When to drink my pre workout drink?

I did a bit more research and it just left me even more undecided. I'm starting to see restless' point of view, in that I noticed the research showed that peak insulin levels are reached anywhere from 20-45 minutes after consuming the pre-workout high carbs. Thus it does seem that the ideal time...

    The Ketogenic Diet

It's a great book, very complete. The only complaint is that Lyle wrote it in too serious of a tone, it's missing his humor.

    Mag 10

Not to be an advertisement but... It works. If you don't grow on it then you should take a look at how you're eating/training because something is seriously wrong. That being said, the gains aren't as solid as I'd hoped (Read: A lot of the gains were water), which is a major psychological...

When to drink my pre workout drink?

Shouldn't be a problem taking the high G.I. carbs preworkout as the insulin response is blunted by exercise. Also, the research seems to support the notion that a pre-workout shake of high GI carbs and protein is actually more important than a postworkout shake. (of high GI carbs and protein)

    Myostatin - Any Thoughts?

I'm gonna have to pull the BS flag on this supplement. This stuff has been out for quite a while and I've not heard anything positive. The optimists can say forever that it needs more time to work. Great idea in theory, too bad it never turned out.

    Fish Oil

There's a great fish oil supp I use, it's called Dale Alexanders Emulsified fish oil concentrate. About 950 EPA, 675 DHA per serving, 24 servings per container...and it tastes good (not kidding). Sorry if this seems like an ad for the stuff, but I like it a lot. You've got to scoop it out by the...

    Countering Insulin Desensitizers

So if I'm dieting and want to decrease insulin sensitivity, should I do away with the fish oil?  Eat more saturated fat?  Less fiber?  Less volume in cardio/training?  All of these reduce insulin sensitivity, so how far should I take it? If insulin resistance is good while dieting, than either...

    Where are you from?

I'm from California, USA - San Jose/Silicon Valley specifically. (IMHO the capital of the world right now). I love hearing where everyone is from.  It's often easy to forget when you're online that you're speaking with someone living halfway around the world.

    Testosterone and Behavior

Anti-spectator sports.  Now I've heard everything! But to be serious, maybe you don't like watching sports because you weren't raised in that kind of environment.  I have a roommate who grew up in a more academic setting, and never learned to appreciate sports simply because he was never around...
