Abs Specialization This is sort of a retread of earlier abs posts. But I wanted to collate everything into a proper post, so that people can easily pick this topic out. Everybody has their own spin on abs. If you're interested in this unique approach, continue reading. I'm not a big fan of...

    Customizing HST

Absolutely. Plus DC trainers, given the intensity of the program, will enjoy a significant boost in raw strength, which will facilitate their next cycle. The corrolary, though, is that they should do a week of light training (i.e. their cruising) before going back into DC proper. This way, they...

    nutting out the post 5's

That will work pretty well. HIIT is actually harder with shorter hi/lo intervals. For example, something like 10 seconds hard, 20 seconds easy would be significantly harder.

WHO is da masta? Sho nuff!! Sorry, just had to do that . . . Much better, BUT my HST cycles end at a much higher strain level (i.e. negatives, LS, high frequency) than most HSTers. But, generally, I feel most HSTers would benefit from at least a full 2 weeks rather than the aforementioned...

Somewhere between the middle and the end of 5s. Exception are calves, which could benefit from LS during 10s onwards. Pulses (for peak contraction movements) are usually done with a mid-15s to 15RM weight. Whatever produces a satisfying burn after 10-15 pulses, really. Pulses are probably the...

Pulses do what static holds do, but moreso. And just as pulses are generally more effective than static holds, pulse stretches are generally more effective than load stretches. But, also more dangerous. A bit of that, but also from the standpoint of conventional wisdom, I just don't think it's...

To Squat or not to Squat... ++

I think squats can be potentially dangerous, even with proper form, if you're particularly tall/lanky, your center of gravity is high, or if you're Welsh. There is no help if you're Welsh. Knee problems seem to come down to depth. Lunges are generally worse for your knees than squats because...

Yikes, your biceps better feel that. :D I used to hang from a bar to work on stretching out my lower back (which included swinging from a bar, that increases the effective force pulling on you.) I corresponded with a mate who was doing a similar thing, and we both noted that our abs/lats/biceps...

    nutting out the post 5's

Yeah, that works too. It would probably be better than partials since you do have more ROM, and (more importantly) since you can be more aggressive with progressively loading. I prefer that post-5s to last closer to 4 weeks than just the two. Negatives enable me to do that. Yes, you would only...

    How heavy is heavy?

How high is your fish oil intake? Sounds like you have major inflammation, which obviously comes with age and such. You may want to increase your fish oil intake further in order to alleviate this. And you may want to substantially increase your flax oil with some evening primrose in the mix...

    metabolic work 15's, which exercises?

There's a lot of variance here. Meaning, if you just want to make sue you have enough metabolic work for 5s/post-5s, just do one light set for each major bodypart. For example, if you have bench, military, fly, and tricep movements, you only do the bench for the 15s. If you have multiple row...

Hmm. . . 2 minutes? Are you using negative-size loads with them? That's interesting! Yeah, I never lock out my elbows either. Actually, what I do is arc my back a little when I hold them. cheers, Jules

    Weight Increments in LBs ??

Two workouts with the same weight is very acceptable. Sometimes it's difficult to make fine increments with certain movements; just don't sweat it and move up to the next weight when you can. Some people actually don't do most of the singe-joint, isolation movements during 15s. This gives you a...
