    SLIN!!

I'm pretty sure that Bryan wrote an article on insulin about a year ago. I saw it in some muscle mag. Unfortunately, the magazine is at home and I am at college. But I'll be home in just over a week. I tried finding the article online. This might be it: Growing Beyond What Nature Intended -...

    Felt drained

Just to point out the obvious: If it's an isolated incident, then maybe you just had a crappy day for lifting. Or maybe you just weren't "there" mentally, and you couldn't get yourself into the right mindset to lift. Everyone has one of these days once in a while. If that's the case...

    pre workout nutrition

I'm pretty sure there have been studies showing that a shake containing protein and high GI carbs creates a higher spike in insulin levels than a shake containing just high GI carbs. I'm not sure what role, if any, insulin plays in determining how fast protein gets into the blood, but why would...

    HELP . Water Intake During Creatine : : :

Yeah, I remember seeing in a health book a few years ago that you can't possibly drink too much water and that you'll just pee out any excess, but it turns out that's not true. Dood's right, there is a limit to how much water you should drink, and people have died from it because it messes up...

I lost all my gain during the SD :(

True. I did this intentionally, just to show what would be the absolute worst case scenario. As long as he wasn't eating 133 calories below maintenance, most of the weight lost would just be water weight. And even if he was eating 133 calories below maintenance, you're right in saying that some...

    gaining 100 lbs

Plus, he's Batman! (But let's keep that on the down-low. It's supposed to be a secret.) Man, that movie is gonna be so awesome!

I lost all my gain during the SD :(

Darn. Well, I kinda figured it was more complicated than that. I was only taking the protein into account, not the water that goes along with it. Losing 5 lbs. of protein would correspond to losing about 25 lbs. of muscle once you take water into account, since muscle is only 20% protein. Shame...

I lost all my gain during the SD :(

Math is fun! Let's do math! panzer, you didn't say how much weight you lost during your sd or exactly how long it was, so I'll use Louno's information instead. Weight lost on SD = 5 lbs. (5 or 6, really, but let's just say it's 5) Length of SD = 15 days Alright, now the calculations: 5...

Why do my Friends grow. And Im not?

What he said. If you gain no weight, your diet sucks. If you eat healthy and gain weight, but it's all fat, your training sucks. As a side note, I'd just like to add that I always find it funny when someone is raving about some protein powder and how it helped him to gain 10 lbs. of pure...

Why higher rep ranges for beginners?

IMO, the main reason why it is recommended for beginners to use higher rep ranges is for safety. Going from not lifting at all to lifting heavy weights can be dangerous, especially if you don't have your form down. Lifting in the higher rep ranges when you first start out helps to safely prepare...

    Pull ups/Chin Ups

Crackerman, check out this article: Keep Your Chin Up by Christian Thibaudeau. It's about improving your chin-up strength, and it focuses a lot on improving forearm strength.

Supplement choice are is it a choice

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself will add their opinion, but until then, here's my take on things. 3000+ calories per day sounds like it should be working well for you, unless your metabolism is super fast and that isn't enough. Most likely, though, total caloric intake is not...

Pic is up need help please!

One thing I noticed about the 2 pics is that in the first your arms are a little ways away from your body, but in the second they are right next to your body. This makes your arms look a little smaller, at least to me, in the second pic. Also, the shading in the second picture isn't helping...

    carbs for the brain

I'm not an expert on nutrition or anything, but I think that there could be some truth in kyleman1's statement. Of course, if you eat over maintenance calories you will inevitably gain weight regardless of whether your excess calories come from protein, carbs, or fat. However, the source of...

    Not enough weight to Squat

You could try front squats (exrx.net - Barbell Front Squat). They're very similar to squats, except they don't recruit quite as many muscle groups, which means that you aren't able to use as much weight. They'll still work your legs really good, though. Totentanz, what is this piece of...

    HST tweeking thread

Good idea, Fausto. And not just for Jules and his customizing thread, but for this entire site. There is SO much quality information just lying around here. There's the FAQ, all of Bryan's articles, DKM's glossary of uncommon terms and his recipe thread, the muscle growth flowchart (which is so...

    Vinegar for Better Glycogen Repletion?

I don't know if they contain acetic acid. My guess would be no. However, they do contain citric acid, and this has been shown to have a similar effect on glycogen repletion as the acetic acid in vinegar. I don't know how the two compare as far as how well they work and how much is needed...
