    Just Started My First Cycle

I can't say for sure what it happening to you, but I can admit that the first cycle of 15s I ever did just wore my butt out. I still find the 15s difficult, but enjoyably so. If you start failing to reach your reps for a couple workouts in a row then you will know you are over-reaching. Good luck!

    Response to rep ranges

I know Bryan and others have stated that they don’t seem to grow until they reach the 10s and 5s using HST. My bodyparts have always seemed to respond differently to training stimulus rather than following any universal plans. High reps seem to work great for my legs, for instance. Squats and...

    Start of Final Week!

If you don't have a fever go ahead and workout. If you do have a fever you are screwed ... Rest, fluids, etc... Working out with a fever is not a good idea.

    Progression Confusion

I’m sure I have read that larger increments are better for hypertrophy, but I’m not sure I understand why. If my 10 rep max for bench presses is 200 lbs. for example, then using 10 lbs. increments would mean my first 10’s workout over 2 weeks would be with 150 lbs. Can that really be better than...

    cutting cycle

I'm not sure exactly what kind of answer you are looking for, Basso, but let me try: Inclines or flat bench are similar enough that it really doesn't matter. You really just want basic compound exercises for each body part. If you switched to partial range pec deck flyes it would matter! :-)...

    Xenical

It is currently a prescription only diet/weight loss drug, but they are discussing possibly making it available over the counter. I don't know anyone with any experience with it, though.

    Nutrient Paritioning Effect

The relative distribution of nutrient loss or gain between fat and protein stores is called nutrient partitioning. I guess if you gain muscle and lose fat you have good nutrient partitioning. Cool term, isn't it? :-)

Need Help with Elbow Position for Front Squats

I'm not sure this is terribly helpful, but .... What I do is use the grip similar to your top picture, but I really have to focus on keeping my elbows very, very high in front of me. Doing this raises the deltoid way up and I use my fingers between my neck and the bar to hold the bar tight...

    xfactor and HST

"ZYFLO is indicated for the prevention and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children 12 years of age and older. ZYFLO, which contains the active ingredient zileuton, blocks the formation of leukotrienes that may contribute to asthma symptoms. Zileuton is an orally active inhibitor...

incline dumbbell vs incline barbbell for mass

Incline DB curls give you much better stretch, which is always a good thing for hypertrophy. I tend to allow one hand to carry too much of the work when doing barbell curls also, which the DBs avoid. I can go relatively heavy on the incline DB curls and still isolate the biceps pretty well. I...

    Gironda's bench & curls

Gironda had a weird way of doing many exercises, but they tend to be effective. His bench to the neck, especially with your feet off the floor, certainly seems to create more stretch across the pecs, which is a good thing. I always felt bench presses more in my frontal delts until I did them his...

    what age

I'm 47 and have been training since I was 13. Primarily HIT since meeting Mike Mentzer in 1978, but many other methods, too. HST for about 2 years. I'm carrying almost as much muscle as I did 10-15 years ago, but my body is much healthier.

    Is this true?

Here is a recent discussion on rep speed: http://www.hypertrophy-specific.com/cgi-bin....l=speed I'm not sure if it really answers your question, but I think it is interesting.

    Sissy squats

I think a board under your heels can be valuable if you have any flexibility issues with your ankles or achilles. Also, some folks tend to get too much stress from squats in their glutes for anatomical reasons and a board will sometimes throw more emphasis to the quads. It is preferable to squat...

Why 2 weeks for every rep change????

Why 2 weeks for every rep change????

I guess I'm gonna be the exception that proves the rule, but I've just started my third "short" cycle with just one week each of 15s, 10s, 5s, and negatives. I seem to be responding fine to it. I found my joints getting sore during the 5s when using 2 weeks of each, so using a short...

    PowerBlocks

They are very comfortable and convenient to use. I do most of my dumbell work with them Once I get over 85 lbs. each I find dumbells too awkward to use for most things anyway. I've used them for about 6 years now and don't miss regular dumbells at all.

    The power of 10 workout

This is just another way of presenting the SuperSlow method. It is "probably" a pretty good way to get in shape for most people, but it doesn't seem to be a very good way to build muscle.

    Managing fatigue/exercise tolerance- older HST'ers

I prefer to do the weights twice per day 3 days per week and do cardio/aerobic stuff on 3 other days. It helps me prepare mentally for either a weight day or aerobic day, and I haven't run into any fatigue problems. I'm 47. Good luck!
