    tired of being embarrassed

sling- Welcome to the forum (and hopefully, HST!). I agree with dkm- you do need to be realistic, but I'd like to offer a different prespective. I'm 54, and started to work out again (after a 20 year hiatus) about 5 years ago. Then, I hadn't heard about HST, so I basically followed the...

I need expert help with HST

Sonny- Welcome from another old-timer- there are a bunch of us in here. If you want to lift three days/week, then you have two options: 1. lift once/day, full body, or 2. do an AM/PM split. I'm assuming you want to do the former, but correct me if I'm wrong- you have the makings of a very...

    help

Hi Wez- Take a look here: http://www.exrx.net/Lists/ExList/WaistWt.html#anchor172895 Check out the cable-based exercises- you should be able to do these. Or, invest in a few plates just for abs- maybe one each 5, 10, 25, 35, and 45lb plates should do it so you can do weighted crunches. Jake

I drink 1/2 to 3/4 gallon of milk during workout

The only major disadvantage I see is the fat, if you're drinking anything other than skim (non-fat) milk. Even 1% milk is going to give you (at 2.5gm fat/8oz serving) 20gm fat in 1/2 gal of milk, of which 12gm is saturated. A half-gallon of whole milk will yield 96gm fat, of which 40gm is...

    egg yolks

And egg yolks contain lecithin, which is a good thing. (not to mention too that half the protein in an egg is in the yolk!)

    Curing heartburn?

Mikey- I can't tell from your macronutrients whether you're eating irritants, but if you're eating processed foods, these might contribute. Personally, I'd recommend that you see a doc- if you're having so much trouble with heartburn, it could be an indication of something more serious (and...

    Curing heartburn?

You might also look at your diet- are you eating/drinking any acid producers that might be irritants? Things like tea and coffee are culprits for some people. Jake

Is it possible to stretch bone?

If you've pretty much passed puberty, that's all she wrote when it comes to bone. You can stretch muscles, tendons, or ligaments, though.

    q about unsalted nuts

Oh yeahhhhhhhh... I *forgot* about them!

    HST + AB split??

While I'm a great advocate of "strengthening the core," ab work won't do much for getting cut in that area- only cutting will do that. Do the crunches for strength (and mas, if you really need that), but not to lose the handles! Jake

    q about unsalted nuts

Yeah- skip the peanuts (which aren't nuts, actually, they're legumes). Almonds and walnuts rock. Skip nuts like cashews (which are *way* too habit forming) and Brazils and macadamias (which have high levels of saturated fat. BTW, get dry-roasted- that's more important than salt-free- dry-roasted...

    Power Rack on plush carpet?

Yeah, I'm afraid you're going to get (probably) permanent indents in the carpet. Two things you might try: 1. Get a large square of 5/4" plywood and put the rack on that- this will distribute the weight better- you'll still have some squashing, but it's less likely to be permanent. 2, If...

Need some help with my workout..

You can just do one set- you're working your bis to some extent with your compounds, so don't sweat it. Another thing you could try is a circuit (one set of each, then repeat)- just a thought... Jake

    hi im new

Welcome to the forum, blah! What you describe, if I'm reading this right, is not HST. I'd suggest that you check out the FAQ section to get familiar with the principles, then ask lots of questions in the forum- there's a lot of us in here who are happy to help! Jake

    Squats and Deads

You can definitely do DB DLs, but DLs are primarily a lower back and glute exercise. If you want to hit your hammies, try doing DB SLDLs: http://www.exrx.net/WeightE....ft.html DB squats are good too, although with both of these, you'll get to a point where you need the bar to hold the...
