Is it ok to drink sedimented water?

Do you mean distilled water, or water with sediment in it? If the former, yes, it's OK, but distilled water tastes horribly flat. If the latter, no, it's not OK without further filtering and purification. HTH!

    Quick Question

Matt, what you're doing sounds right. Since you asked, I drink juice right after I lift, and when I'm bulking, I'll drink a protein shake as well. Being a Yank, I'm scratching my head over "tuna buttys" though

An Aspirin just before the workout?

Jumping back to the aspirin discussion for a second- a daily low (83mg, or "baby aspirin") has been proven to prevent first as well as repeated heart attacks. There *is* a possible danger, even with such a low dose, of hemorrhagic stroke or prolonged bleeding when you get a cut (I...

    Pasta vs. Wholewheat Pasta

12oz of pasta/day??? Yikes- that is a LOT of pasta! But in answer to your question- yes, there is a difference (although where I buy pasta, price isn't one of them). First, there's taste- for my money, WW pasta tastes better, but that's me- my family doesn't agree with me at all on this...

    Patellar Tendonitis

Sorry to hear that, BigBang. I'd like to suggest something else- I don't know if you're being followed by a sports medicine doctor for this, but you should be. PT is a pretty common condition, and usually quite treatable non-surgically, but your rehab should have some direction to it...

    Vegtable intake

Hi Smee- The recommendation from the National Cancer Institute, which has been picked up by other groups as well, is "5 a day," meaning at least five servings of fruits and/or veggies in a day. So it's not just veggies- you should factor in what you're eating in the fruit line as...

    Vegetarian diet

That's a persistent myth, a holdover from the 70s and the Lappe days when it was thought that you had to complement protein at every meal. It's simply not true, as long as you eat a balanced, well-thought-out diet. And I can't think of a single vegetable protein source that's "worse&quot...

    Vegetarian diet

MO, she'll be fine, as long as she watches what she eats (which is what everyone, carnivores included, should do). I also use "meat substitutes" like textured vegetable protein in various forms (burgers, sausages, crumbles (good in spaghetti sauce), and even "cold cuts")...

    Vegetarian diet

This is a source of confusion for lot of folks- here's the basic definitions: Vegan: no animal products whatsoever (no meat, eggs, or dairy). Strict vegans don't wear or use any products made from or tested on animals, like leather or certain cosmetics. Vegetarian: there are several different...

    Vegetarian diet

Actually, no, we don't! If you eat fish (or chicken), you're not a vegetarian! That vegan parmesan cheese is excellent, BTW- it melts on top of pasta or hot veggies, and like Catalonia says, it's sat fat free. Jake

    Calories

1800-2000, but that's because I'm cutting. When I'm bulking, 2300-2500. Also, keep in mind that I'm 54- the ol' BMR goes down a bit with every year of age. Jake

    Food diary

Not to sound like a shill, but I use NutriCounter on my Palm. It's pretty cool, and you don't have to get on the net every time you want to use it. Fitday is great too, BTW, but I've found it frustrating over a dial-up line. Jake

    Vegetarian diet

I'm not sure what "vegemeat" is (do you mean Vegemite?), but there are several really good meat "substitutes" (I hate that term) that are pretty protein rich. Tofu is one, of course, but so is tempeh, textured vegtable protein (or TVP- maybe that's what Techno meant), and...

    peanut butter

If you have a blender, add it to your post-workout shake (assuming you use chocolate or vanilla protein powder- doesn't work well with strawberry ;) ) Jake
