U think stopin creatine would lower your......

Yea, it does. Creatine supplementation produces a negative feedback loop which represses the translation of arginine:glycine amidinotransferase, the enzyme responsible for the rate limiting and first step of the two step synthesis of creatine. Yet, since half of your creatine comes from normal...

    Kre-Alkalyn-buffered creatine

Well, I've heard nothing good about Ecdy/Methoxyflav stacks; supposedly, it takes exorbitant amounts of EcDy to mimic androgens, assuming it even does so. I don't believe there is any hard evidence backing up the anabolic claims of plant sterols (at least, I can't find any decent and recent...

    Should Prohormones be illegal

Hah, agreed! Crazy @$$ conundrum, ain't it? I'd prolly be more biased if I actively took them or planned on it but, at the moment, I'm mostly just interested in seeing how it turns out and how people defend the legality/morality of 'em :)

    Should Prohormones be illegal

Good points :) So if education isn't the solution, what is? Since we can't beat em, join em? I personally think that the comparison with alcohol and smoking is a moot point and using the "hypocrite" argument is somewhat of a defensive cop-out. It's like a defeatist saying...

    Should Prohormones be illegal

You need a license to ride a motorcycle and be of age to both drink and smoke. Since everyone enjoys comparing these things, does that raise the question as to whether or not there should be an age requirement (or something similiar, license, test, informational class, etc...) on prohormones and...

    Kre-Alkalyn-buffered creatine

Haven't tried it but something to keep in mind: plenty of studies show very high plasma increases in creatine after monohydrate supplementation in addition to increased creatine levels in the muscle after a muscle biopsy. Quote from linked study below...interestingly enough, the same study...

BIDEN AND HATCH SEEK TO BAN DESIGNER STEROIDS

I hope you can see the difference between supplying a substance to someone in order to normalize their abilities/functions and supplying someone with a substance that enhances their abilities/functions beyond what is "normal." Comparing giving insulin to a diabetic with giving EPO to a...

    Yet *another* creatine question

No benefit by partitioning it; partitioning isn't really needed since the the turnover of creatine and phosphocreatine to creatinine is something like <2%/day. Plus, one 5g/serving is easier...could even go with less after your initial loading phase :)

How/When do you take your creatine?

    1) In the morning and my pre-wo shake. Most folks seem to take it after their workout but I personally don't think that it matters. 2) Any insulin-spiking carb drink will do the trick. I usually avoid taking 50g carbs at a time so can't say from personal experience but all you're attempting to...

BIDEN AND HATCH SEEK TO BAN DESIGNER STEROIDS

With all due respect, I think that that is a rediculous way to look at it. Sports are meant to be bastions of competition with which people can decide whom is either more naturally gifted, more driven to practice for competition or both. Using biochemistry to "level the playing field&quot...

Is creatine safe for me to use!

In addition to creatine monohydrate being cheaper, as Chupa pointed out, creatine is not absorbed as well in tablet/meal form, apparently (20% decrease in plasma levels). Reference

    Weight Gainer

I can't really comment on how good Nlarge2 is for gaining weight but I've been taking it for a pre/post workout during cutting and maintenence. Some people give it a hard time because of it's fat and carb content but that #### is in there mostly for calories as far as I am concerned. There are...

    Caffine and alcohol

Not to be an Avant fan boy but PD has a quick and dirty, 2 part writeup (part 1, part 2); he leaves a few things out but it gives a decent overview on a very general anesthetic. Beer is one of my few vices so I quite often find myself stuck in a rut, so to speak, since I go out after working...

    SAN V-12

Even if all of the 1.5g of the betaine/guanidinoacetate complex was converted to creatine, you're still basically just adding extra creatine to a system that easily saturates thanks to the creatine transporter's Km. As with any creatine supplementation, you're also creating a normal negative...

    Purines

Well, Gout and kidney/ureter stones are characterized by deposites of crystallized sodium urate, which forms from large amounts of uric acid in the fluids of the body. Uric acid itself is the product of purine metabolism so gout/stones results mostly from the body's inability to filter the uric...

    And yet another Creatine question...:)

If you don't use the creatine in conjuction with a carb-source, it will take longer to reach the peak concentration of creatine within your cells (aka, you'll see 4-7 days for loading w/o carbs). The above statement you quoted recommended only two days of loading because the addition of carbs...

    And yet another Creatine question...:)

From Oral creatine supplementation and skeletal muscle metabolism in physical exercise. Keep in mind that it'll be different for everyone but that's the one cookbook recipe that I can remember off the top of my head concerning creatine/carbs/protein (have the whole article, which is decent, if...

    Journal request

Health library near the lab has it (no accesss to online version, though) so, at worst, I could always scan a copy for you. Feel free to toss me a PM if you don't have any luck.

    When to take creatine?

I think the turnover rate of creatine to creatinine is only like 1-2% per day so it takes a while to return to baseline creatine levels after supplementation. Missing a day or two won't make much of a difference and you could always just take a loading dose or two if you're really worried about...

    Amino acid uptake

The downtime in the lab makes for good pubmed browsing :) If someone needs a copy of that 2nd pdf, I can get it to you when at work on Monday. I sometimes take it for granted that the institution has free access to most of the journals, hehe.
